We were introduced to Amanda & Lenny – guests at a wedding we were shooting – in San Diego, in May of 2017. We instantly hit it off with them so we were especially honoured when they asked us to photograph their wedding at the Chicago Illuminating Company in the autumn of 2018.

Often times photographers are asked what their ideal wedding to shoot is – A specific venue? Brand of dress? A budget as high as a skyscraper? The real answer is: the one where there’s a real, palpable, uninhibited connection. Amanda & Lenny not only had such a beautiful connection to one another but a real, visible connection to their guests as well. They were extremely ‘present’ in nearly every moment we watched them. Despite – or rather, because of – their wedding party emphasising the ‘Party’, Amanda & Lenny were able to keep their blinders on, refocusing their attention on each other and the true purpose of the day.

It is such a joy to photograph couples that truly understand and appreciate the importance of their wedding. It isn’t just about shots and gregariousness, fancy clothes and flowers. It’s the first day of a new chapter and one that should be remembered as clearly as possible (and if it isn’t, well, that’s what we’re here for!). Amanda & Lenny’s wedding at the Chicago Illuminating Company was just that – the beginning of something new altogether.

After you get married – even though nothing really changes- there’s so much that really does. We were so grateful to document this new beginning. Thanks again to our lovely, lovely couple and all the people who helped pull it all together for them.
