We spent a perfect winter day in California with Nick + Nicole photographing their Mission San Juan Capistrano engagement session. These two high school sweethearts are tying the knot in Long Beach, California next May and we can’t wait to document that beautiful moment in their lives too. We photograph weddings all over, but we keep coming back to southern California. It’s been said by so many other shooters -the light is simply different there. The bright sun, coupled with the dry climate makes for the most atmospheric sunset sessions – and this one is no exception.
If you find yourself in the San Juan area, we highly recommend a drive down from Temecula through the Ortega Highway. There aren’t too many places to stop along the road, but the drive is so windy through both green and desert hills, that you really feel like you’re in a car commercial. Back to this beauty of a session – the Mission is one of the oldest in southern California, with tons of places to explore both indoor and out. If you’re looking to do a photoshoot here, be sure to set up a time in advance as a photo permit is required. The mission closes at 530pm, so to get this beautiful sunset light, we recommend shooting in the winter, when daylight ends closer to 5pm.
