So one day, as we’re driving across North America, we passed through Utah to shoot a Salt Lake City engagement session. Here’s how that happened.
The internet can truly be a wonderful thing. It has a way of bringing people together and turning strangers into friends. We were in the midst of our super long drive home to Ottawa, from Los Angeles, when we decided to drive through Utah. We put up a post on facebook that we were passing through Salt Lake City, and lo-and-behold, Renata and Jess sent us an email out of the blue. We’d been following one another on social media for quite some time, but we’d never met before. These two incredible lovers invited us into their home, shared their meals with us, and gave us some incredible travel tips.
It’s easy to see the dark side of human nature – its as easy as turning on the five o’clock news. Every now and then, love and goodness shine through. More often than not, actually. We got to know Jess and Renata over delicious sandwiches, wine and shared one Simpsons story after another. We were also only too happy to document their relationship in their home.
We really love this new trend of focusing on a couples’ daily life for their engagement session, vs. creating a false sense of reality (ballgowns in city parks – but I also don’t think we’ll ever tire of photographing ball gowns either). Jess and Renata live in a beautifully and artfully decorated mid-century modern home, at the base of a mountain in Salt Lake City. Their taste runs through every inch of the home – from the art on the wall, to the super comfortable guest bedrooms, down to the wallpaper. We loved spending time with these two and can only hope this was the first of more adventures together!
