Just a few short days before the 2020 worldwide quarantine set in, I (Justyna) had the wonderful opportunity to assist incredible photographer, Zalmy Berkowitz on a Jewish wedding in Brooklyn. I have so much to write about this experience, but I’ll start with this: you’re never too experienced, good or “there” in your career to assist. Working with photographers you admire is one of the best ways to improve and never stop learning. So for that, I thank Zalmy to the moon and back!

Zeissa and Mendel hosted their incredibly sentimental and family-oriented wedding on a Monday in March. It may sound like an exaggeration, but Zeissa did not for a moment stop beaming, smiling, bouncing off the walls with pure, unbridled joy. I’ve seen happy brides in my day, but Zeissa may actually go down in history as THE happiest human I’ve ever seen on her wedding day.

It was beyond lovely to be welcomed in to Zeissa and Mendel’s tight-knit community. Their families are so warm, welcoming, open to having their photos taken and simply overjoyed for these two beautiful humans embarking on a new chapter in their lives.

I worked as Zalmy’s second shooter on this day, and here is a selection of my favourite photographs from this Jewish wedding in Brooklyn – an beautiful experience I’ll hold dear to my heart for a long, long time.
