We’re always excited to photograph something new and different with an adventurous couple! Nicole and Joe drove up to Wakefield, Quebec from Toronto for their houseboat engagement session. The best engagement sessions (we say) involve an adventure or activity our couple plans, and we simply tag along to document their day. Nicole and Joe had never been to the national capital region before, so instead of opting for a regular hotel and a walk near Parliament Hill, we helped them find a unique Airbnb space (hello houseboat!) that could also make for an interesting backdrop in case it rained.
And it did rain. In fact, it was a torrential downpour with little breaks here and there. We’d take little moments to jump outside with an umbrella when the rain died down, a slow dance on the boardwalk, a quick run through empty, rain filled streets and then back inside for cover. Rainy days, though a challenge at times to shoot can also be the most rewarding. Everything is nice and quiet, the streets are empty and all you can hear out in Wakefield is the soft pitter-patter of raindrops on windows. The fog rolled in beautifully at the end of our session, and the wait was rewarded with a stunning sunset. The skies turned a magenta pink and purple as we said ‘good-night’ for the evening.
If you’re struggling to figure out where to do your engagement session, start by thinking about why you want photos taken in the first place. What is it you hope to see? How do you hope to see yourselves years down the line? As adventurous? Comfy and cozy at home? Do you want to remember yourself as a young glamazon, carefree and wrapped up in romance? There are so many ways to capture your love, but what’s most important is for the photos to be authentic to your relationship and how you want to remember it. This session was such a joy to photograph, it makes us want to get in front of the camera ourselves!
