We were looking forward to this wedding for over a year, so when we finally flew out to photograph Ximena + Alfredo’s Hacienda Vista Hermosa wedding in Tequesquitengo, Mexico (about 2 hours driving, south of CDMX), we were quite excited to say the least. Despite a few hiccups regarding a sick pilot, delayed flight, a sketchy drive, and sketchy food, we finally arrived no worse for wear. Upon driving through the gates of this once-upon-a-time sugar cane refinery – and before that, in the 16th century, a palace for Hernán Cortés, the Spanish conqueror and explorer. Steeped in history, lush vegetation, and dappled sunlight, we were already off to a great start. It was pretty much a ‘point-the-camera-anywhere-and-get-a-good-photo’ kind of day.
Ximena + Alfredo, who both live in Los Angeles, decided on this venue due to its beauty and as a tip-of-the-cap to their combined heritage. As destination weddings tend to be a little far to travel for many, it could be expected that this would be a small, intimate affair consisting of just the closest of family and friends…not the case. At all. With over 300 invitees making the trip, it was sure to be quite the party weekend. Little did we know that almost 100% of the guests apparently received their Master’s degrees in hard-partying which ended up being great for photo-ops, but probably worse for the next-day’s hangover (see the booze-backpack worn by the bride below – you’ll get the idea). If this is the usual pace of a Mexican wedding then please sign us up for more.
We say it a lot but we really do have the BEST clients and love our jobs whether local or in a 500-year old hacienda. We want to thank our lovely couple for trusting in us, their family and friends, and the staff at Hacienda Vista Hermosa for making it so easy for us to explore and photograph this beautiful wedding.
