Tanya and Bernard’s Carondelet House wedding in Los Angeles was a photographers dream! It would be easy to say this wedding was dreamy because of the light (it was), or because the couple were drop dead gorgeous (they are), but the dreamiest of days revolve around couples madly in love and not afraid to show it. Tanya and Bernard were just that. Apart from planning a beautiful downtown Los Angeles wedding, and celebrating with their nearest and dearest, these two were so themselves around us all day – going through and enjoying every emotion that hit them. Couples like this are an absolute joy to photograph and get to know!
The day started at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, where Tanya and her excited group of girls got ready. Most of them are make up artists, and it was really lovely to see them do their own make up throughout the morning. From there, the festivities were moved to the Carondelet House – a spanish style estate converted into the most unique event space – for the ceremony, a delicious feast and tons of dancing and celebrating.
A few planning tips from this wedding:
- For the getting ready portion, try to have your make up done in front of a big (north facing) window, with a clean (uncluttered) wall as the backdrop.
- If you’re going to skip a wedding planner, hire a day-of-coordinator. You don’t want to be running around setting up centrepieces on your wedding day, and DOCs help you stick to your timeline.
- Create your reception room layout according to light – make sure you and your spouse are seated in the best light in the house, and work your around from there.
